I’m going to tell you about a conversation I had a couple months ago because I think it captures something important about where we are with AEO adoption — specifically among realtors, who are the clients I’ve worked with most deeply at PromptBridge.
A realtor — let’s call him David — reached out after seeing a post I’d written about AI recommendations in real estate. David had been in the business for 14 years. Solid producer. Strong community reputation. Mostly worked through referrals and repeat clients, the way experienced agents often do. He hadn’t thought much about his digital presence lately because he hadn’t needed to — the phone kept ringing.
The Test
He did the test during our first call. Asked ChatGPT: “Who are the top realtors in [his city]?” Three agents were named. He knew all three of them. He outsold two of them last year. He’s been in the market longer than all three. And none of those facts mattered, because ChatGPT didn’t know those facts. What ChatGPT knew was that those three agents had 150, 210, and 88 Google reviews respectively, active Google Business Profiles, and websites with content that actually answered questions. David had 41 Google reviews, a GBP he hadn’t touched in two years, and a website that was essentially a digital business card.
His reaction was the one I’ve come to recognize as the most productive: quiet irritation followed by immediate curiosity. Not defensiveness, not dismissal. Just: “Okay. So what do I do?”
The 30 Days That Followed
David is a high-agency person. He doesn’t wait for things to happen to him. Within a week of our call he had texted every client he’d closed a deal with in the past two years asking for a Google review. He wrote the message himself — personal, direct, not a template. He got 34 reviews in 10 days. He brought his total from 41 to 75 in under two weeks.
Then he sat down and rewrote his Google Business Profile description from scratch. The old one was three sentences about his years of experience and commitment to client satisfaction. The new one was 400 words about the specific neighborhoods he specialized in, the types of buyers and sellers he worked with most often, what his process looked like, and what made his approach different. He added 23 photos — neighborhood shots, listing walkthroughs, client celebration photos (with permission). He wrote 8 Q&As and posted them to his GBP.
In week three he published a genuinely useful 1,200-word guide to buying a home in his specific market — not generic homebuying advice, but specific observations about his market’s current conditions, typical timelines, and what buyers needed to know right now. He shared it on LinkedIn and emailed it to his sphere.
What the Test Said at Day 45
I ran the test queries again at the 45-day mark. David appeared in two of the five queries I ran — including the main one, “top realtors in [city].” Not in the first position, but in the answer. Named. With the AI citing his review volume and market expertise as reasons for the recommendation.
He sent me a screenshot when he ran it himself and saw his name. The message with it just said: “There I am.” Two words. But I’ve gotten that message in various forms enough times now to know exactly what it feels like to receive it. It’s the moment the abstract becomes real. The moment the work you’ve been doing quietly starts to show up in the world.
The Part Worth Remembering
David didn’t do anything exotic or expensive. He didn’t hire a big agency or launch a complicated campaign. He did the basics — well, quickly, and consistently enough that AI systems started to notice. Fourteen years of genuine expertise in his market was always there. The missing piece was just making that expertise legible to the systems that are now mediating how new clients find realtors.
That gap — between real-world expertise and AI visibility — is what PromptBridge exists to close. David closed his own gap through 30 days of focused effort. Most business owners could do the same. The knowledge of what to do isn’t the scarce resource. The willingness to actually sit down and do it, consistently, without waiting for perfect conditions — that’s the scarce resource. David had it. And now AI knows he exists.
