AEO doesn’t have to be a big, expensive, months-long project before it starts working. There are dozens of practical, free or low-cost actions you can take right now that directly improve your AI visibility — some of them in under 30 minutes. This post organizes 30 days of quick wins: one meaningful AEO improvement per day, starting with the highest-impact actions and building into a sustainable ongoing rhythm. Pick your start date and go. Your AI citation rate will look different a month from now.
Week 1: The Foundation Audit (Days 1–7)
Day 1 — Run the AI test. Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI “Who are the best [your service] in [your city]?” Screenshot all results. This is your baseline.
Day 2 — Audit your Google Business Profile. Log in and identify every incomplete field. Don’t fix anything yet — just make a list of what’s missing.
Day 3 — Fix your GBP business description. Write or rewrite it: 300+ words, mentions your city and services specifically, written for a potential customer who’s never heard of you.
Day 4 — Audit your NAP consistency. Search your business name on Google, Yelp, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Find every variation in how your name, address, or phone number appears. Make a list.
Day 5 — Fix your NAP inconsistencies. Log into each platform with variations and standardize everything to match your GBP exactly. This single fix removes a significant barrier to AI recommendation.
Day 6 — Update your GBP services. List every individual service you offer with a 2–3 sentence description for each. Not categories — specific services.
Day 7 — Upload 10 new photos to your GBP. Mix of exterior, interior, team, and work examples. Label them descriptively if the platform allows.
Week 2: Content That Gets Cited (Days 8–14)
Day 8 — List your 15 most common customer questions. Literally write them down. These are your content topics for the next six months.
Day 9 — Write a direct answer to your #1 most asked question. Three to five paragraphs, specific to your market, published as a blog post or FAQ page entry.
Day 10 — Publish a dedicated FAQ page on your website. Take your 15 questions and write concise, direct answers to each. This page alone will become one of your top AEO assets.
Day 11 — Write one service-specific landing page. Pick your most popular service. Build a dedicated page: what it includes, how much it typically costs, how long it takes, what to expect, and a FAQ section specific to that service.
Day 12 — Add Q&As to your Google Business Profile. Add ten questions and answer them yourself in the Q&A section of your GBP. This content is indexed and AI-readable.
Day 13 — Write your first GBP post. A short, useful piece of content: a seasonal tip, a project highlight, an answer to a common question. Include your city and service naturally.
Day 14 — Respond to every unanswered review. Go through your Google, Yelp, and Facebook reviews. Respond to any that haven’t been addressed. Include your business name, location, and service type in each response.
Week 3: Building Social Proof (Days 15–21)
Day 15 — Launch your review sprint. Text or email your last 20 satisfied customers with a personal note and a direct link to your Google review page. Personal messages get far higher response rates than mass emails.
Day 16 — Create a review request template. Write a short, warm, non-pushy review request message you can send to every customer going forward. Save it somewhere you’ll actually use it.
Day 17 — Claim or update your Yelp listing. Ensure it matches your GBP exactly and add any missing service information or photos.
Day 18 — Update your LinkedIn company page. Complete every section including services, about text with your city and specialization, and a recent post.
Day 19 — Claim your business on any unclaimed industry directories. Every legitimate directory citation strengthens your entity authority. Search “[your industry] directory [your city]” and claim the top five you’re not already on.
Day 20 — Post on your Google Business Profile again. Build the posting habit now. Two posts per week is the target cadence.
Day 21 — Follow up on your Day 15 review requests. Send a gentle second message to anyone who didn’t respond. Keep it warm, not pushy.
Week 4: Technical Foundation and Momentum (Days 22–30)
Day 22 — Check if your website has schema markup. Use Google’s Rich Results Test (search for it) to check your homepage. If you have no schema markup, note this as a priority technical task.
Day 23 — Add LocalBusiness schema to your website. If you’re on WordPress, the Yoast SEO or RankMath plugins can add this with minimal technical knowledge. If you’re not on WordPress, ask your web developer — it’s a one-hour task.
Day 24 — Write a second service-specific landing page. Pick your second most popular service and repeat the Day 11 process.
Day 25 — Write a local area page. A dedicated page about the specific city or neighborhood you serve: the local context of your work there, any notable local projects, and why you’re the right choice for customers in that specific area.
Day 26 — Share your FAQ page on LinkedIn. Post a link with a short, useful excerpt. This builds both social proof and cross-platform entity signals.
Day 27 — Post a third time on your GBP. By now this should be starting to feel like a habit, not a chore.
Day 28 — Ask three current clients for a review today. In person, if possible. The in-person ask has the highest conversion rate of any review request format.
Day 29 — Write one more answer to your common questions list. The content habit is the most important habit you’re building this month. Keep it going.
Day 30 — Rerun the AI test from Day 1. Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI the same questions you asked on Day 1. Screenshot the results. Compare. In 30 days of consistent, specific action, most businesses see the beginning of movement. That movement is the foundation of everything that compounds from here.
